Nyumbani Children’s Home; Best Children’s Home in Nairobi

Nyumbani Children’s Home is located in Karen along Dagoretti Road, House #141, Nairobi, Kenya. The Children of God Relief Institute (COGRI) was founded in 1992 by Father Angelo D’Agostino to support orphaned and abandoned HIV-positive children. As a result, the organization ensures these children are raised in a safe and loving environment, with the respect and dignity they deserve. Father D’Agostino, a former U.S. Air Force doctor who later joined the Jesuits and specialized in psychiatry, became aware of the urgent need for specialized facilities through his work with Jesuit charities.

Consequently, Nyumbani Children’s Home was established to meet this need and is now duly licensed and registered by the National Council for Children’s Services (NCCS).

PROGRAMS 

• Nyumbani Diagnostic Laboratory

A modern, internationally accredited laboratory provides Nyumbani scientists and medical staff with high-tech tools that significantly enhance their ability to diagnose and treat Kenya’s HIV/AIDS patients. As a result, the on-site laboratory enables more accurate and faster HIV/AIDS diagnosis and testing, ultimately improving patient care and outcomes.

• Nyumbani Village

On a 1,000 acres, Nyumbani Village is their most ambitious project yet. Up to 1,000 children and 100 grandparents displaced by the HIV pandemic live in small cottage units as families.

• Nyumbani Lea Toto Community Outreach

The Lea Toto project was initiated in 1998 as a community-based initiative, allowing orphaned children affected by HIV/AIDS to remain with their caregivers within their communities. Recognizing the compounded challenges of poverty and HIV/AIDS in Kenya’s hardest-hit areas, Nyumbani consequently stepped in to support families and help communities begin the healing process.
