Kwetu Home of Peace; Best Children’s Home in Nairobi

Kwetu Home of Peace was established in 1993 as a Charitable Children’s Institution under the Archdiocese of Nairobi. Initially founded by Fr. Michael Meunier, a Missionary of Africa, as a Care and Feeding Centre for street children, the home has since expanded its mission. Today, its primary focus is to rescue, rehabilitate, and reintegrate street boys back into their families. Specifically, they rescue boys between the ages of 8 and 14 from the streets.

Currently, 20 boys are in the intake stages at the Madaraka drop-in centre, while 55 boys reside at the main centre in Ruai under the full care of the program. In addition, they support 74 reintegrated children who now live with their families.

Ultimately, their goal is to ensure that all children in their care—and others—grow up in safe and loving families through kinship care, family reunification, and community-based support.

Furthermore, Kwetu Home of Peace is duly licensed and registered by the National Council for Children’s Services (NCCS).

What they do

Children should be families and kinship care, not orphanages. Kids have the best chance to thrive when they grow up in a family. That’s why they are committed to strengthening families. They are shifting towards a family-based care model, serving children from their homes with their families rather than having them live at the Centre.
